Happy Cinco De Mayo! Many still believe the common misconception that today marks Mexico's Independence (which is September 16th), today actually marks the annual celebration of Mexico's unlikely victory against French forces d the Battle of Puebla in 1862! This victory was monumental to the people of Mexico as the win brought unity and pride across the nation... Many compare the mismatched battle to the likes of David & Goliath- a true underdog victory!
Like many holidays, Cinco De Mayo is a day that is now highly commercialized; but fiestas aside, many Americans are celebrating Cinco De Mayo to signify and honor America's relationship with Mexico. There are many different ways to celebrate our sistering country, but what better way than with one of Mexico's best beverages, TEQUILA! While drinking tequila is the most common application of the drink, you can also use it as a sugar substitute when baking and in your regular beauty routine!
The main ingredients in tequila (alcohol and agave) make it a perfect component to many various beauty concoctions! According to Joshua Zeichner, the director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, due to the alcohol content in tequila, it's has astringent abilities that help to remove excess dirt, oil, and debris from the skin.
While you can use tequila as an astringent, in face masks or as a scalp treatment, our Master Estheticians recommend trying this body scrub. We recommend using 2-4 times per month depending on your skin type and lifestyle.
DIY Tequila Body Scrub Treatment: 1/4 cup sea salt 1/2 oz. coconut oil 1/2 oz. white tequila 5 drops essential oil (optional- we prefer citrus such as lemon or sweet orange for this recipe!)
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice (optional- great for lightening sunspots)
Gift Idea: Are you or is someone you know getting married this season? This is a great DIY bridesmaids gift idea that you can pair with a small (or big!) bottle of tequila!
